Petit Filous Revelation: It's Not Yogurt, But Fresh Cheese!

Snack enthusiasts have had a revelation that has left them astounded: Petit Filous is not, in fact, yogurt.

For many in the UK, the memory of dipping a spoon into those delightful, fruit-flavored portions during childhood remains vivid. Some even continue to include them in their children's lunchboxes. However, the social media sphere has gone abuzz recently as users have come to a startling realization: these petite delights, while they may appear and taste like yogurt, are actually crafted from fromage frais, which translates to 'fresh cheese'.

The ruckus started when TikTok user @mallycinco shared a video, bringing this startling revelation to the attention of his followers. In the video, he exclaimed, "For a lot of you, this isn't gonna mean anything, but this means a lot to me. Obviously I'm being dramatic, but still, I've been lied to. You're telling me all the time in primary I was munching on strawberry cheese? Are you serious? Like, if it's not yogurt and it's cheese, don't call it a yogurt."

The TikTok video garnered nearly a million views in less than a week, accompanied by almost 1,500 comments. Some users expressed their shock, with one writing, 'Knowing it’s cheese completely puts me off,' while another added, 'I thought fromage frais just meant like yogurt for kids.' A bewildered user chimed in, saying, 'I loved these but I absolutely hate cheese???'

Others took a more philosophical approach, stating 'Yogurt and cheese are basically siblings, chill' and 'If you listened in French, you’d know what fromage frais is'.

The conversation extended to Instagram, where the account 'greatbritish.memes' posted a screenshot of a Google search with the caption 'Head loss.' Even the Petits Filous social media team noticed the post, which amassed over 43,000 likes, and commented, 'Guess what? You’ve just unlocked the “fromage frais” level of adulthood!'

A spokesperson from Petits Filous decided to clear the air, saying, 'It’s reassuring to see that in our Instagram poll 81% already knew that Petits Filous isn’t a yogurt. For anyone struggling to believe it, we can confirm Petits Filous is made from fromage frais! Just check our packaging and website. People will be pleased to know that this recipe confusion comes with some health and taste benefits. When being made, fromage frais is ‘drained / separated’ which does not occur when making a yogurt. This means protein and calcium are naturally concentrated in fromage frais, containing higher amounts than yogurt. Fromage frais also has a smoother, softer texture and milder, creamier taste than yogurt. We hope kids and grown-ups can get over the shock and continue to enjoy our delicious pots made with calcium & vitamin D that they know and love!'
